About the AbilityOne Program

The AbilityOne Program is a federal initiative to help people who are blind or have other severe disabilities find employment by working for nonprofit agencies (NPAs) that sell products and/or services to the U.S. government. With a national network of 600 NPAs, AbilityOne is the largest source of employment for people who are blind or have other severe disabilities in the United States.

AbilityOne has supported our DoD and federal customers for over 70 years. We understand the unique needs of the U.S. military and can accommodate complex contract and program requirements. We help you meet strict industry standards and certifications such as ISO 9000, CARF, JCAHO and ASHES. Most importantly, our capable, reliable employees bring an exceptional, award-winning work ethic to every project.

In 2008, over 60% of people who are blind or have other severe disabilities did not have jobs. Almost half of the individuals with college degrees remain unemployed.

The Quality Work Environment Initiative was a collaborative effort with the Committee for Purchase from People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled, NIB and NISH. The initiative will enable AbilityOne nonprofit agencies (NPAs) to strengthen their commitment to enhance daily work experiences and develop future growth opportunities for persons who are blind or have other significant disabilities.
